Leonardtown, Md. – St. Mary’s County Library is excited to announce being selected among over 100 public libraries nationwide awarded funding by the Public Library Association (PLA) to increase digital literacy using Digitallearn.org resources, powered by a generous $2.7 million contribution from AT&T. St. Mary’s County Library has received approximately $14,000 to hold classes, drop in sessions, and one-on-one sessions for the St. Mary’s County community.
St. Mary’s County Library will be holding free basic computer classes at all three Library locations on topics including Internet Basics, Video Conferencing Basics, Cybersecurity Basics, Email Basics, Computer Basics (Windows 10), and Mobile Device Basics (Android and iOS). Classes will be available in Spanish at Lexington Park Library. Participants who complete one (or more!) of the Digital Literacy classes will receive a $10 gift card, while supplies last.
In addition to classes, St. Mary’s County Library will also hold Get Tech Smart: Drop-In Tech Help sessions at each of our Library locations. Whether you have a phone, tablet, or computer, we’re here to help you build more confidence using your device. Refreshments will be provided. No registration required, just drop-in!
“People seeking to develop or brush up on their computer skills will find a welcoming environment and informative sessions,” said Michael Blackwell, St. Mary’s County Library Director. “Digital Literacy skills are vital, and the Library is delighted to receive this grant to help St. Mary’s County residents enhance their digital abilities and comfort.”
