For your convenience, all St. Mary’s County Library locations offer notary service. Notary service is free, donations to the Library are appreciated.
Notary service is available at scheduled times at our three Library buildings. There may be days or times when the notary public is not available. Please make an appointment by calling or visiting the Library to ensure staff is present and to avoid a long wait.
- Charlotte Hall Library (301-884-2211): Thursdays, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.; and Saturdays, 2 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
- Leonardtown Library (301-475-2846): Mondays and Thursdays, 2 – 4:30 p.m.

- Lexington Park Library (301-863-8188): Tuesdays, 2 – 4:30 p.m.; Fridays, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.

You must have valid (not expired) photo identification and proof of address (if current address is not on photo ID). The document to be notarized must be signed in the presence of the notary – do not sign the document before coming to the Library. If your document requires witnesses, please bring witnesses with you. Library staff will not act as witnesses.
Please note: We are not attorneys licensed to practice law in this state. We are not allowed to draft legal records, give advice on legal matters, including immigration, or charge a fee for those activities. We cannot notarize real estate documents, mortgages, depositions, wills, or documents requiring verification of facts, or certify a “true copy” of a public record or document. Documents may not be hand written, and must already contain a notary certificate with a location for the notary to stamp. We can only notarize documents written in English or Spanish (notary services in Spanish are available by appointment only at Leonardtown Library or on the Mobile Library – call 301-475-2846 to make an appointment).
