The Makerspace has 3D pens available for Makerspace visitors to use whenever the space is open. 3D pens should be used with care as the nozzle gets very hot. The Makerspace provides filament in a variety of colors, as well as limited stencils for tracing.
How does it work?
Plastic filament is heated, pushed through the pen and nozzle, then you move the pen to create different shapes and figures. The melted plastic cools down and solidifies quickly, making the shape of the extruded filament permanent. You can draw on a piece of paper, freehand or by tracing a stencil, or draw up and into the air to create 3D figures. Or draw multiple flat objects, then “glue” them together using the pen to create a 3D object.
