POSITION: Information Technology Assistant, Full-time
LOCATION: Lexington Park Library
HOURS: Weekdays 9-5, occasional weekends
SALARY: $34,575.58 per year

REQUISITES:
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Knowledge of technological systems and their uses
- Knowledge of computer hardware and software; including, but not limited to, recent Windows versions, recent Windows servers, Microsoft Office, the Internet, wireless technology, firewall technology
- Knowledge of network technology and routing protocols
- Ability to learn St. Mary’s County Library policies and procedures
- Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, Library trustees, local government elected and appointed officials, community leaders, vendors, and citizens
- Ability to operate relevant computer systems (including hardware and software), current audio-visual equipment, and office machines
- Ability to learn security camera software specific to the Library
- Excellent communication skills, both in writing and orally
- Excellent customer service skills
- Excellent decision-making and problem solving skills with emphasis on personal responsibility and willingness to deal with issues at hand
- Travel throughout the system and community, work a variety of schedules that include evenings and weekends, and accept system-wide transfers
- 1-3 years’ experience working directly with networked computers in a fast-paced, high-volume, constantly changing customer service environment, preferred
- 1-3 years’ experience working with LANs and WANs, preferred
- 1-3 years’ experience administering a company network, preferred
- Recommended: COMPTIA or 2 years working with networked computers.
DUTIES INCLUDE:
- Provides technology instruction one-on-one or within a classroom
- Spends time on the Library floor
- Assists staff and customers with Library technology and resources
- Maintains and operates basic office equipment
- Maintains and troubleshoots the network; such as internal LAN connectivity issues, adding and removing computers, changing passwords, and running cable
- Troubleshoots hardware and software issues
- Coordinates with County Information Technology staff on WAN and other IT issues
- Performs diagnostics of hardware, software, networks and connectivity problems, and takes corrective action to remedy problems
- Performs routine computer maintenance such as performing software updates, correcting network issues, and replacing computer hardware components
- Collects, compiles, and analyzes inventory and statistics for information technology services
- Generates and interprets system reports, logs, and diagnostic information using various operating system utilities and other software
- Creates and maintains IT documentation using MS Word, Excel, and other software
- Assists with the development, implementation, and maintenance of standards for system configuration, IT security, and procedures
- Tests, evaluates, installs, and implements new hardware and software
- Coordinates with the Public Technology Assistants (PTAs) in each branch on computer and network issues
- Performs periodic review of electronic files on the service and dispose of outdated files with assistance from the Virtual Services Coordinator
