POSITION: Public Technology Assistant, 28 hours per week
CLOSING DATE: January 26, 2018
LOCATION: Lexington Park Library
START DATE: February 20, 2018
HOURS: Monday 9-5; Tuesday 12-8; Thursday 9-5; alternating Friday/Saturday 9-5
SALARY/BENEFITS: $14.03 per hour, enrollment in MD state retirement system
REQUISITES:
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- One year or more of customer service experience preferred.
- General knowledge of library services desirable.
- Basic knowledge of Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office, and navigation of the internet.
- Basic knowledge of network components and skills.
- Familiarity with Active Directory, preferred.
- Ability to communicate effectively with both public and staff.
- Good computer and software skills.
- Good presentation and teaching skills.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Good physical strength and stamina: Work requires light physical effort in the handling of materials or boxes in non-strenuous work positions up to 30 pounds and/or continual standing or walking of 75%+ of the time.
DUTIES INCLUDE:
- Provides computer instruction and answers questions about the catalog, Internet, email in a classroom setting and one-on-one.
- Troubleshoots computer hardware and software. Performs routine computer maintenance.
- Assists customers of all ages with basic features of computers and software programs such as Microsoft Office.
- Performs network duties, such as troubleshooting connection issues (firewall, proxy server, etc.); adding PCs to and removing PCs from network; learning components of the network; changing passwords; running cable; learning how to use Active Directory.
- Instructs customers in using the online catalog, locating materials, placing holds and interlibrary loans.
- Assists customers at the self-checkout machine, copier, fax machine, and printer.
- Communicates computer and equipment issues to staff and customers.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
