Come dressed as your favorite detective (you may win a prize for best costume) and be ready to discuss a pleasantly paranormal investigation. The theme for October is "Spooky Sleuthing" and we will be reading Mrs. Morris & The Ghost (2019) by Traci Wilton.
The first book in the Salem B&B series introduces us to Charlene Morris, a young widow who has recently bought a historic New England mansion. She plans to open it up as a bed-and-breakfast, expecting to meet interesting guests from all over, not a handsome ghost who wants her to solve the mystery surrounding his death. Will she be able to get the mansion ready for guests in time while juggling contractors and haunting houseguests?

Nonfiction Book Club: Into the Wild
Come to the Nonfiction Book Club to learn about interesting information and true stories! We will meet via Zoom on the last Thursday of every month.
Whether you are very familiar with nonfiction or only read it occasionally, this book club will have something for you, as we will cover a variety of topics, from biographies to science to self-help.
This month's pick is Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer. A description of the book provided by the publisher reads, "In April 1992 a young man from a well-to-do family hitchhiked to Alaska and walked alone into the wilderness north of Mt. McKinley. His name was Christopher Johnson McCandless. He had given $25,000 in savings to charity, abandoned his car and most of his possessions, burned all the cash in his wallet, and invented a new life for himself. Four months later, his decomposed body was found by a moose hunter. How McCandless came to die is the unforgettable story of Into the Wild."

Tales from the Crypt
Dr. James Gibb will discuss burials in cemeteries.
How we treat the remains of deceased family and friends says much about us and the society we have created. Patterns of burials in cemeteries and the means by which we mark graves reveals aspects of the past that may not be recoverable through more conventional forms of historical research. This illustrated presentation provides examples of what we have learned through archaeological investigation of cemeteries throughout the region, from simple mapping and archival research of a 19th/20th-century Irish Catholic cemetery in Baltimore City, to analysis of excavated human remains from a 17th-century family cemetery in Calvert County.
